Drilling underway on SESVANDERHAVE trial sites

The first trial plots for the 2014/15 sugar beet crop are in the ground as leading sugar beet breeder SESVANDERHAVE UK drills its early sown bolting trials.

Recent years have seen SESVANDERHAVE bring popular varieties such as Cayman, Lipizzan, Badger, Stingray, Springbok and Mongoose to the market. All have been bred for the UK market and proven to deliver excellent performance for growers.

“Trialling across the main sugar beet regions is essential to ensure we select the best genetics suited to the UK market,” said Richard Robinson, SESVANDERHAVE’s Trials and Research Manager. “Our UK commitment delivers benefits which have been shown by the yields that growers of our varieties have achieved in recent years.”

“The last of the 2013 sugar beet crop is still being processed from what appears to have been a record year for many sugar beet growers,” says Mr Robinson. “Good conditions should see commercial drilling underway in the next week or two, although the mild winter increases the likelihood of early aphid infestations and the need for appropriate seed treatment.”
