Details of the pylon route corridor from Sellafield to Harker and Sellafield to Heysham, to connect the proposed nuclear power station at Moorside, have just been announced by the National Grid.

And, the message from Matthew Bell, Chartered Surveyor at H&H Land and Property, is: “If work on the route is liable to affect your land and or property, it is most likely that it will cause you disruption. Therefore it is very important that you understand the implications to ensure that you protect your interests.”

The National Grid is currently referencing at 3km corridor and if they haven’t already, they will be contacting all land owners very soon. The proposed works may involve removing existing power lines, installing temporary lines and erecting new pylons along the expected route of the power line.

Matthew continues: “We know various routes are currently being considered and as they must carry out initial land referencing to identify landowners along the routes, work is already underway. The National Grid or their representatives will make contact to confirm ownership or occupation of the areas of land to be utilised.

“There are many implications that need to be considered as this work will have a major impact and it is important that you are aware of these implications at an early stage.” says Matthew, he continues: “Any issues or concerns should be presented to The National Grid as early as possible in the negotiations to prevent problems at a later stage.”
