BELEPI winter wheat makes 'good early impression'

Breeder John Blackman and Tom Nickerson of marketing agents Ebbage Seeds inspect a seed crop of the new winter wheat variety Belepi.

“Belepi is an exciting new winter wheat variety with very early maturity – in fact it is earlier than any current RL variety,” says Tom Nickerson. “We believe It will provide growers with a unique and novel combination of profitable options.

“It has early leafy growth with exceptional smothering ability and a very wide sowing window - suits blackgrass control with stale seedbeds.

“It is a good second wheat and the ideal choice before oilseed rape.

“It also fits nicely into the market with feed wheat yield level, biscuit making potential – and with good sprouting resistance plus high HFN.

“Belepi’s agronomy characteristics are built round the variety’s good resistance to septoria tritici and fusarium ear blight.

Limited quantities will be available to the UK seed trade for sowing this autumn, so Belepi will be fully available to UK wheat growers for autumn 2014 drilling,” adds Tom Nickerson.
