'Never a better time to get into the agricultural industry'

There has never been a better time to get into the agricultural industry. The world’s population is growing and the resulting demand for food presents huge opportunities and additionally consumers are more interested than ever before about where their food comes from and how it is produced.

With that in mind, NFU Cymru wants to help encourage young entrepreneurs to consider a career in agriculture – whether they are from a farming background or not. The Union’s conference, taking place on 6 November, has an eminent line-up of speakers to give those present an outlook on the opportunities that exist and their perspective on the various methods of how to make a start within the agricultural industry.

Rebecca Evans AM, the Deputy Minister for Farming and Food, will deliver the keynote address at the conference which will be held on the Royal Welsh Showground, Llanelwedd.

Following on from the Minister those present will hear from Andrew Loftus, Morrison’s Agriculture Manager and Professor Wynne Jones, retired Principal of Harper Adams. There will also be a panel debate involving Thomas Jones from Montgomeryshire and Matthew Jackson from Anglesey, where the discussion will be around advice and tips on how to get into the industry.

Stephen James, NFU Cymru President said, “Our thanks go to Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales, for their support for the conference which looks set to be both topical and very interesting.”
